How To Reduce Anxiety, Fear & Insecurity

Have you ever felt anxiety, fear or insecure and didn’t really understand why? In this blog, I will discuss one of the biggest reasons why this may be happening to you and how you can reduce anxiety, fear and insecurity and develop a greater sense of peace and stability in your life.

Of course, there could be many reasons why you are experiencing anxiety, fear and insecurities including having a lot of stress, in your life, limiting beliefs or traumatic experiences. However, these negative emotions can be reduced when you begin to work with the energy of your body, mind and spirit.

One of the main ways I have helped myself, and others, reduce anxiety, fear and insecurities is by working with, and balancing the chakras.

The chakras are a system that originated in Indian Vedic texts, which are the most ancient scriptures of Hinduism, between 1500 and 500 BC.

It has been shown that each chakra is an energy centre, and bundle of nerves, that correspond to specific organs and as well as physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual states of being at influence all areas of your life.

It is believed that when these chakras are open, and aligned, the energy through the body is able to flow with ease and results in a more positive state of being.

The Root (Muladhara) Chakra

The root chakra is the first of the seven chakras and is located at the base of the spine. This chakra is the foundation that helps you feel grounded, connected, stable and safe. Opening this chakra will give you the solid foundation, much like a house, to build upon the other six chakras and live a more purposeful and fulfilled life.

This chakra relates to the things in your life that ground you and keep you feeling safe such as having enough food, water, shelter and the ability to let go of fear. When you have enough of each of these things it’s easier for you to release worry and live your life.

This chakra is represented by the colour red, the sound mantra LAM, the sense of smell and the element of earth

Symptoms Of A Root Chakra Imbalance

If you suspect you have an imbalance in the root chakra you will likely experience these emotional effects:

  • Anxiety
  • Fear
  • Nightmares
  • Eating disorders
  • Greed
  • Illusion
  • Insecurity
  • Negativity
  • Cynicism
  • Paranoia

An imbalanced root chakra may also be associated with physical problems in the flowing area of the body:

  • Legs
  • Feet
  • Rectum
  • Tailbone
  • Immune system
  • Male reproductive parts
  • Prostrate gland
  • Degenerative arthritis
  • Knee pain
  • Sciatica
  • Eating disorders
  • Constipation

How To Balance The Root Chakra

When the root chakra is open you will feel supported, safe, a sense of connection and more grounded to the earth.

To balance this chakra it is important to do a lot of self-care and remind yourself that you have a right to be here.

You may also choose to:

  • Engage in more grounding and earth related activities such as gardening, hiking and cooking healthy meals made from fruits, vegetables and grains grown fresh from the earth.
  • Surround yourself with earth colours and objects that remind you of nature or make you feel safe and secure.
  • Practice yoga postures specifically related to the root chakra such as forward bendsreclining bound angle and warrior II.
  • Do exercise such as Kegal exercises or Bandha yoga—where you lock or tighten certain areas of your body.
  • Place gems, such as garnet, red jasper, black tourmaline and bloodstone, on the root chakra area to help open and align it.
  • Use a variety of essential oils such as: Angelica Root, Benzoin, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Frankincense, Myrrh, Nutmeg, Oakmoss, Patchouli, Root Chakra Balancing Blend, Spikenard, Vetiver.

When you begin to open and align the root chakra with all, or even some of the techniques listed above you will reduce fear, anxiety, insecurity and begin to live a more connected and inspired life. Feeling a deeper sense of connection to the earth will allow you to open up to the wisdom that comes from our great Mother Earth and respect her, and yourself, more that you ever have before. This respect will lead you to doing great things that will not only help the planet but mankind and all living things.
